About Us

About Us

Glen Eden Primary School, established in 1915, is a Year 1-6 primary school situated in Waitākere City. Our values of kairangi, ako, manaakitanga and whanaungatanga underpin all that we do in our kura.

Our teaching and learning teams are:

Kiwi team - Years 0-2

Takahē team - Years 3-4

Tui team - Years 5-6

Our school is also organised into whānau groups. Each whānau consists of a mix of classes from each of these teams which allows for tuakana/teina relationships to develop and be part of the teaching and learning programmes. Whānau groups are called Kōwhai, Kikorangi, Whero and Kākāriki.

Staff at Glen Eden Primary are committed to providing the best possible education for our students and continue to look at ways of improving what we do. We gather a range of data to inform our teaching and to monitor individual and group progress. Children are involved in the learning process and are aware of next steps to progress their learning. Parents are kept well informed of student progress through accurate reporting and student led conferences. We celebrate effort, progress and success.

Glen Eden Primary School values relationships with whānau. We regularly share information and achievements with our community in a variety of ways. We encourage whānau to use our GEPS app and follow our Facebook page to keep up to date with what is happening at our kura. Whānau are always welcome to come and meet and talk with us.

Glen Eden Primary is a part of the Kerehana Kahui Ako. We work alongside Glendene Primary, Kelston Primary, St Leonards Primary, Kelston Intermediate, Kelston Girls College and Kelston Boys High School to develop strong learning programmes and pathways for our tamariki.

At GEPS we are focused on growing a community that is EMPOWERED and PROUD.

Some facts about our Pou: Tiriwa

Our pou was carved in 2015 to celebrate our centenary. The carver was Sunnah Thompson (Te Kawerau a Maki) and the figure on the pou is Tiriwā.

Te Kawerau a Maki are the tangata whenua (people of the land) of Waitakere City. Tiriwā is a significant ancestor. The heartland of Te Kawerau is the Waitakere Ranges, also known as Te Waonui-a-Tiriwā (the great forest of Tiriwā) Amongst other things Tiriwā is said to have moved Rangitoto from Karekare to the Hauraki Gulf.

On the base of the pou are birds and animals from the Waitakere region.

Glen Eden Primary School
makes learning an enjoyable
and rewarding experience
for our tamariki.
