Term Three
Kathryn Arbon is the senior teacher of the New Entrant classes. She has designed a fabulous induction programme for our new pupils. Each Wednesday afternoon from 1:30pm to 2:30pm new and prospective students are invited to Room 3 to share in this programme. The idea is to make the transition to school as easy as possible both for children and their parents. We aim to take all the ‘surprises’ out of coming to school.
To learn more about this programme call the school office.
This term our students are facing the challenge of answering this question: How does art help us to remember and record our past? Already I can see that the teachers and pupils are excited by this inquiry. Some classes have been to visit the local library, other trips to the Corbans Arts Centre and the Auckland Museum are planned. The classrooms are looking fantastic, colourful and full of children’s work.
The year 4 to 6 children are also involved in cultural performance groups. So far we have a Samoan group, a Japanese group and a Kapa Haka group, all practising for a performance later in the term.
Debbie McLarin is traveling in England and Sweden this term and is having a ball. While she is away Victoria Scott is teaching art and reading across the school. Room 4 has been transformed into an artist’s studio. Check it out!
You are welcome to visit Glen Eden Primary at any time. If I am not available to show you around there are plenty of other proud staff members who would love to show off our school.
