Our Gardening Project

Our overarching focus in 2012 is the concept of “from the ground to the table”

The students will be busy planning, planting, harvesting and preparing produce to eat. Each class has a garden space. Many junior classes are working with their older buddies. A newly created space now houses garden equipment. New water tanks have been installed to collect rain water from the roof.

The senior students are learning about composting and run this in the school. They are also charged with looking after the worm farm.

In addition to the class gardens the Eco Warriors are propagating plants and also making a school herb garden for all to use.

Later in the year we intend to plant an orchard, a Pasifka garden and a berry area.

We are always keen to have parents and green fingered individuals helping. Please contact the office or your child’s classroom teacher should you wish to assist.

SCHOOL GOAL:

To develop the ‘from seed to table' culture throughout the school
through the schoolwide gardening programme.
The children will understand and be involved in the process of
growing, caring for, harvesting and preparing food.
