Tena koutou katoa. Talofa. Greetings, Kia orana

Miss Soljan has organised the parent reader programme for Wednesday mornings. What a buzzy place the staffroom is then! Thank you to all the participants, both parents and the student readers. Reading in a safe and positive environment will do wonders for the children’s reading confidence.

On Wednesday afternoons, 1.30 – 2.30pm, Miss Arbon runs an induction programme for new pupils. If you have a pre schooler, or know of one, 6 weeks out from starting school, please bring them along to de-mystify the school process.

For once I had a ‘grand-daughter free’ Saturday and was able to go along to watch our netballers. I missed the Opals, but Miss Kirk tells me that they played well and won their game. I watched the Diamonds and the Stars. Not a winning game for either of them, as their coaches think they got a bit rusty over the holidays, but I could see their true skills coming through towards the end of the games. Our little Blue team played on Sunday and Mrs Rayner reports that they played their hearts out. Thank you again to our coaches Margaret Thorby, Dianne Rayner, Renee Kirk and Moana Hatton and the many parents who support the players week in week out.

A gentle reminder that you can pay your child’s school donation anytime throughout the year. The donation is very reasonable at $70.00 per child or $120.00 for two or more children. If you prefer you can pay $20.00 per term.

Over the holidays I was reading a back copy of a magazine called ‘Good: Sustainable Living in New Zealand’ and found a small article called ‘Natural Nit Busters’. I’ll leave copies of the full article in the office for any interested parents. In brief, the suggestions are:

  • Cover hair with conditioner, comb out tangles then use nit comb. Repeat 2x weekly for 3 weeks
  • Use a battery powered electric comb or a hair straightener to ‘zap’ them. (Don’t get too near the scalp.)
  • Add tea tree oil when washing bed linen and to shampoo.
  • On a regular basis rub a handful of white vinegar to washed hair, leave several minutes, then rinse.

Hope this helps.

Yours sincerely

Linda Mayow
Principal
