Mural

As you drive past Glen Eden Primary recently and gaze over to the basketball courts, something may have caught your eye!

At the beginning of last term we decided that the wall between the courts was in dire need for a facelift! I decided that it would be great to create a mural that included drawings from children across the school.

A mural design sheet was distributed throughout the classes that had a grass section and a sky section which needed to be filled up with original characters and objects that would be eye-catching and humorous. Each teacher chose the top 5-10 designs and sent them to me. Mrs Burg, Miss Skinner and I then sat down and cut out all of the objects and characters that we thought were unique and entertaining and then used them to create the composition that you can see today.

Using these images, I sketched them up onto the wall, trying to not change the drawings in any way. So the wall was full of many children's designs and now I had a big job on my hands and that was to select some master painters to do each drawing justice! In Tui team, we were doing self portrait paintings, so I used their classes to watch out for who my painters were going to be.

After selecting my painters, we spent the next 3-4 Fridays (weather permitting!) painting the wall. The children selected all of the colours themselves and had to paint not just one coat, but two! These children have done such a fantastic job and I would like to thank each of the painters and designers for their outstanding commitment to beautifying the school!

It has attracted a lot of attention already! Keep your eyes peeled...more may be coming soon! It is a large wall!
